Spanish wines, It's a matter of taste
About Spanish Wine
Within Spain there is 63 regulated Denominations of Origin and more than 90 grape varieties which include a broad range of high-quality native grapes. Denominations of Origin spread through a mosaic of diverse terrain and climatic conditions. Numbered labels are used to guarantee origin, with D.O. sometimes abreviating 'Demonination of Origin'.

These growing areas may vary from semi-arid southern terroirs to wet northern ones. Vines may be found growing in desert or volcanic regions or in landscapes blanketed by snow. In some areas the winemaking traditions exist primarily due to the grapevine being the only plant capable of surviving in such extreme conditions.

The diversity of soil and climate has produced an extensive range of wines, each showing pronounced characteristics. In order to understand them it's good to have some information about the standard classifications under the Spanish and European wine laws.
